Asia Cup 2014: Afghanistan shocks Bangladesh to claim a historic win

Afghanistan created a flutter in the ongoing Asia Cup by defeating Bangladesh comprehensibly by 32 runs thereby recording their first ever win over a Test playing nation. For the hosts it was a nightmare day as they are now virtually out of the Asia Cup having succumbed to their 2nd consecutive defeat in the tourney.

Afghanistan might have won the match but it was the hosts who started out strongly with the ball as they quickly send half of the Afghani batsmen to the pavilion with just 90 runs on board. But Asghar Stanikzai and Samiullah Shenwari had other plans as they put on a brilliant 164 runs partnership for the 6th wicket to take the score to a competitive 254 in the stipulated 50 overs.  Asghar Stanikzai remianed not out with a well made 90 off 103 balls while Samiullah Shenwari scored a brilliant 81 runs off just 69 deliveries.

Chasing 255 to win, Bangladesh got off to the worst possible start, losing both the openers with the score reading just 1 off 2 overs. The middle order batsmen got the starts but none of them could not convert their starts as Afghanistan picked up wickets in regular intervals. Finally Bangladesh were bundled out for 222 runs, 32 runs of the target. For Afghanistan, Nabi took 3 wickets while Zadran and Hassan scalped two each. Samiullah Shenwari won the Man-of-the-Match award.
