#Liverpool, #Arsenal, #SouthamptonFC, #PhilippeCoutinho, #Raheem Sterling, #Daniel Sturridge
At last good old days are surely here for Liverpool!!!
The Anfield has barely changed since decades and so have the fans coming there to watch their own Reds fight. There was a time when Liverpool stayed undefeated for many matches and by looking at current scenario it feels that history might repeat itself.
Winning is becoming a habit for Liverpool as they are unbeaten in the Premier League since back-to-back defeats to Manchester City and Chelsea in December and seven wins in their last nine matches. This winning streak of Liverpool has seemed to take pace since its massive win over Arsenal in February, 2014 where it won 5-1 against the gunners. This winning streak kept on improving and Liverpool was able to set a benchmark for itself by defeating Southampton 3-0 recently which was their first clean sheet in six matches.
A particularly impressive aspect of the win over Southampton was the way in which Liverpool controlled another game despite recording less possession than the hosts. The Reds restricted Saints to just two efforts on target despite a prolonged spell of pressure before half-time and then dominated the second period following the introduction of the third gentleman, Raheem Sterling.
The conclusion of this match was that Liverpool have improved considerably. They had worked on their formations correctly. They shocked the opponents with their diamond like formations and thus were able to counter attack more fiercely and built many chances of scoring goals.
Talking about the present squad of Liverpool, it seems that they have got all the right ingredients to formulate a success strategy. If we look at both the games against Arsenal & Southampton, the key was young players which helped Liverpool succeed. Liverpool’s youth force of Sterling, Coutinho & Sturridge have proven time and again that they have got what it takes to take the club to the next level. Given the Liverpool’s drought for such a performance since its last English championship in 1990, these players can well prove to be a hope for Liverpool’s title dream.
And on top of that, Liverpool have enormous momentum. The last time the Reds went nine games unbeaten in a single top-flight season was when they finished second in 2008/09, and picked up 31 points from their last 11 matches. The striking thing about that run is that it saw Liverpool keep seven clean sheets and concede a total of just three goals in ten of those final 11 fixtures.
We have seen with the current Liverpool team, the propensity for damaging lapses has not disappeared. Liverpool have been rapidly improving to a point where their belief is now believable. The players have responded to the manager adapting his system to get the best out of his phenomenal strike force, while a lack of European competition has also been crucial. No-one expected Liverpool to be in this position with just few games left to play, and being the surprise package in the title race may work in their favor.
