Why PSG might win the Champions League this season
The mighty Parisians, are a testimonial to the world of football that money can turn the fortunes of a beleaguered club. Hogging the limelight during the early 2000’s, as the club where the Brazilian legend Ronaldinho shone through, the club had faded in popularity, since his departure and has faced troubled times. Not winning their domestic league since 1994, isn’t a statistic any club would be proud about. Step in a Sheikh from the Middle East, with his bags of cash and gold and voila - you’ve got something that every football player in this planet dreams about when joining a new club - crazy high wages. And that’s exactly the advantage that PSG boasts about today- the club that gives its players one of the highest pay check’s in the world of football.
As of today, Paris seems to be the most desired destination for young football talents, and thus stringing together a world class side, since its takeover by the Qatar’s in 2011, has not been a tough ask for the French giants. Building up a world class side and ensuring the players gel together as a team through the sands of time, has not been an easy ask. However, winning the Ligue 1 in 2013 under the highly venerated Carlo Ancelotti, has seen their nerves ease, and they now target their next scalp, the UEFA Champions League, that would be the epitome of European glory.
PSG definitely can be viewed as favourites to win this tournament. Their form has been impeccable of late, and with the deadliest strike combination in Europe, of Ibrahimovic and Cavani, they are a formidable force to reckon with. Defensively, experienced center defenders Thiago Silva and Alex along with young wing backs Marquinhos and Van Der Wiel, form a very stable defensive back four. As if their team wasn’t good enough, the signing of Cabaye from Newcastle, along with their existing holding midfielders of Matuidi, Motta are an anchor in the middle. Down the flanks Lucas, Pastore and Lavezzi can give any defense a headache when they are in song. They have an experienced coach in Laurent Blanc, once the manager of the French national team, to pull the strings for the team.
The key to winning the Champions league for PSG is consistency, maturity and above all the sheer passion and determination to win Europe’s most prestigious and elite competition. The rest will follow.
