BRENDAN RODGERS DESERVES MANAGER OF THE SEASON AWARD MORE THAN ANYONE ELSE

With just over a month to go for the premier league season to wind up, it’s all set for an exciting and a nail biting finish. The 3-way race for the title is steaming up with every passing day with Liverpool holding the slightest of edges after it defeated Manchester city in a 5-goal thriller at Anfield. Both Mourinho and Pellegrini have done a commendable job till this point after joining their respective clubs last summer.

The Premier League Manager of the Season is an annual association football award presented to managers in England. It recognizes the most outstanding manager in the Premier League each season. The recipient is chosen by a panel assembled by the league’s sponsor (currently Barclays) and is announced in the second or third week of May.

There have been some amazing performances by managers like Mauricio Pochettino and Sam Allardyce who had successful terms with Southampton and West ham United respectively. But according to me, it’s a race between the Everton manager Roberto Martinez and Brendan Rodgers. They might be the fiercest of rivals but both the clubs have played some brilliant football with the limited resources they possess. Roberto Martinez lost their club’s trump card Fellaini in the summer transfer window to the red devils and has managed to do wonders for the club thereafter without any major signings. If Everton wins its remaining fixtures, it will end its season in the 4th spot which would be a long awaited dream coming true for the toffees.

Instead of all the heroics of Roberto Martinez, his Merseyside rival manager Brendan Rodgers is my man because what he has achieved this season is something that the world would not have even thought in their wildest of dreams. To be the top of the table after finishing 7th in the previous season around is by no means a cakewalk especially when you have financial powerhouses like Chelsea and Manchester city breathing down your nose. In terms of money spend by the premier league clubs during the last summer, Liverpool stands at the 10th position with a meager spending of 32.4 million pounds Manchester City heading the list with 125 million pounds followed by Chelsea with 100 million pounds.

The Reds are playing attractive football – amongst the best in Europe, in fact the ascension of Raheem Sterling, Jordan Henderson, Philippe Coutinho,Joe Allen and Jon Flanagan reflects on how well the young players have been brought through. Over his two seasons at the club, he averages 1.92 points a game, with this season bringing 2.26 points per game. In the three seasons previous, Liverpool won an average of 1.52 points per game, emphasizing the incredible turnaround Rodgers has brought.

Whatever happens and whosoever wins the title, this man has built a legacy of his own at this great club. It might be too early to compare him with the great Bill Shankly, but Brendan Rodgers deserves the award for the revolution he has brought about at Liverpool FC.
