RCB Vs DD Match Review : RCB too hot to handle
The day came when the wait to watch the star batsman Kevin Pieterson bat after a long while should have been over. But to much of surprise of the cricket fans, Pieterson did not play due to a finger injury. It was a big blow to the team as it is difficult to find a replacement for a batsman of sheer class of Pieterson. Delhi Daredevils looked completely off the hook under the make-shift captain Dinesh Karthik. Pieterson doesn`t just make their batting line-up look extremely lethal, but he is the leader that the franchise must be looking at to revive their lucks in IPL. Remember, Pieterson was the captain of the England team which won them World T20. How much does the investment in Guru Gary returns will only be evident in the latter part of IPL7.
The match`s toss was won by Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kohli chose to bowl showing his confidence in his team`s batting prowess. Royal Challenger`s fast bowlers started well by taking quick wickets using the conditions to their use. The ball swung in the few initial overs and Delhi Daredevils were on the back foot from the start. JP Duminy and Ross Taylor revived them and took them to a competitive total of 145 Runs by putting up more than a 100 runs partnership. Duminy top scored with 64 runs.
RCB didn’t have Chris Gayle to give them an explosive start, but Parthiv Patel gave them the start that they needed. Virat Kohli himself didn’t look in the form that he showed in the World Twenty20 tournament but still kept scoring runs. Kohli was dropped twice on 23 and 24 in an over of Parnell when they had even reached the half way mark. Yuvraj Singh joined the party and was initially seen to have problems against the fast bowlers but Daredevil`s captain Karthik instead of attacking him went on the defensive and paid the price. Clearly, Daredevils missed their captain Pieterson. Yuvraj Singh soon struck form hitting the DD`s spin bowlers out of the park consistently. Kohli and Yuvraj made the batting look so easy and reached the target in less than 17 overs. Yuvraj outscored Kohli and topscored with 52 from just 29 balls. The fans could only ask themselves why he couldn`t bat this way in the final a few days ago. RCB is one of the favourites to win IPL this year and made a perfect start to their campaign this year. Expect them to get much better from here on.
