Can Real Madrid exploit the chinks in the Bayern Munich armour?
Real Madrid v Bayern Munich. A clash of two footballing behemoths, with the winners of this Champions League semi-final likely to be strong favourites to lift the trophy. Throughout the season, Bayern Munich have had pundits and spectators purring at their fast moving, technical football, but recent weeks have seen a potential chink in the German’s armour, with defeat in the Bundesliga and relatively average performances in both legs against Manchester United.
Pep Guardiola has called upon Bayern Munich to show "passion and heart" in their next games as they look to progress to the finals of the Champions League. The Bavarian giants have won just one of their last five games in all competitions - a 3-1 victory over Manchester United in their quarter-final tie - during which time they lost two consecutive Bundesliga matches. And Guardiola has urged his players to up their game and show more desire if they are to reach the final of the competition.
"We need to show passion and heart," he told the Bundesliga’s official website. "That’s the only way we’ll make it to the final in Berlin and overcome Real Madrid to reach the Champions League final. Sometimes defeats help you to improve." The coach said. The question still remains that who will emerge as the ultimate winner.
There are two main threats to Bayern. The first is Real Madrid and I think they might just pip the Germans to the trophy. The problem for Madrid’s opponents is that in Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, they have two players who can rip teams apart by themselves. Particularly when they are playing away, if a team opens up a bit against them, Bale and Ronaldo will be formidable coming at them. The second threat to Bayern is the number of games they may have to play. That has certainly affected Barcelona in recent years. Their success took them into tournaments like the Club World Cup and they ran out of steam as they approached the climax of the season. Bayern look as though they have a deeper squad but, they will need to be careful they do not overextend.
Bayern Munich have been utterly dominant in the German Bundesliga this season, losing only twice in 30 games. Their away form is staggering – 12 wins from 15 games, with 40 goals scored and just 7 conceded. However, as mentioned, their recent form is the only cause for concern, with 2 losses in the last 8 matches, and 11 goals conceded in that period. Their defence does not seem impenetrable against the big teams, as a mediocre Manchester United team showed in the quarter finals, and Arsenal did before that.
Overall given the team and the form in which Real Madrid are currently, they should use it to the full extent to dismantle their opponents. It is for sure that they have got some real talent which can make any top club bend in front of them and this is the time for the club’s talents to finish this season of with a great style. It totally depends on these talents how they exploit those chinks in Bayern’s armor and emerge as winners.
