Is RR the best place for a younger player to develop at?
Rajasthan has always been a breeding ground for the youngsters from the start of the IPL. Many younger players have come through the “Rajasthan youth Academy”. If you consider the inaugural edition itself, many players came through the ranks such as Asnodkar, “Rockstar” Jadeja now renownedly known as “Sir”, Yusuf Pathan. It is just like a start-up company where a fresher has many responsibilities to deal with and finally becomes a thorough professional. Similarly due to lack of superstars in this team the youngsters have been given responsibilities from the word go which has helped them. How the likes of Rahane and Samson have grown in stature is testimony to the ideology of RR. One (Rahane) has already made it to the Test team and the other (Samson) is not far behind. Credit should also be given to Shane Warne and Rahul Dravid who have always been the sponsorers of young talent. They have played a huge part in the development of youngsters. For example, promoting Samson to crucial No.3 which ultimately has turned out to be a huge masterstroke for the Royals. Players like Jadeja , Yusuf Pathan, Rahane, Binny are the products of this system. Finally, it is the Indian Premier League and it is the larger picture which should be taken into consideration rather than packing your teams with a bunch of blockbuster foreign and well-known Indian players.
I have always been a huge fan of the philosophy of RR. They have never been afraid to invest in youth and have always played an entertaining brand of cricket. Right from season one they have selected an icon as their captain and then the base of their team is youth so that the captain can have his influence on the team and there are no big egos.
It has never been a star-studded million dollar team but on the field they have always given equivalent to billion dollars. Their main strength has always been “team spirit” which came out with flying colors even when it was tested to the brink during the controversy which happened last year. I hope they maintain this “promote-youngsters” philosophy and dish out more and more young and exciting talent.
