WHY LOUIS VAN GAAL IS THE RIGHT CHOICE FOR MANCHESTER UNITED
Many people seemed bewildered when Louis van Gaal’s name came out as the leading man to take over Manchester United. But when you understand how van Gaal operates, you will see how he fits into the situation at United seamlessly.
When Manchester United appointed David Moyes, they obviously made a fatal mistake because they appointed someone with no credentials to prove that he deserves to be ‘The Chosen One’. By appointing Louis van Gaal, on the other hand, Man United would be appointing someone who has proven himself at the highest level in European football time after time.
Having done wonders at Ajax and AZ Alkamaar, van Gaal went on to manage some of Europe’s elite clubs in Barcelona and Bayern Munich. The work he did at those clubs cannot be understated either, especially for what he did at Bayern. Wherever he has gone, he has won trophies and is a proven winner.
Many pundits have praised his tactics, which are a major part of his game plan. Van Gaal is very adaptable to a situation, and is very comfortable playing a number of various formations as well. Unlike Moyes, who was very one- dimensional with his tactics and tactically inept, van Gaal won’t embarrass the club by being outfoxed by other managers in a lower position on the league.
One of the major reasons for United’s downfall this season was Moyes’ own stubbornness. The Scot was adamant that his philosophy and his tactics were right, despite them failing on numerous occasions. Van Gaal won’t be scared to attempt new things if he sees that his tactics aren’t working, a quality any manager must have to succeed at the top level.
Although van Gaal will not be an Alex Ferguson, I think appointing him for our short term future would be the right thing to do. A mistake the club made when appointing Moyes was giving him a 6-year contract, something which is ridiculous even for a club who doesn’t promote the sacking of managers. Rumours suggest that United will not repeat that mistake, and when they do appoint van Gaal (it seems likely) they will give him a 3-year contract instead. That would be perfect. If he does well in the 3 years and wants to stay, the club could extend his contract. If not, sacking him would cost far less, and he would have already laid out the foundations for someone like Ryan Giggs to take over at Manchester United permanently, something which I would love so dearly.
The fans have already started to describe him as a ‘dream candidate’, underlining his desire to manage in England and hopes to be a champion in four different countries, having already won league titles with Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich. With people like Roy Keane, Jurgen Klopp, Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola stating that they have no intentions of leaving their clubs, appointing van Gaal would seem the obvious choice. And to me, it also seems like the right choice.
