French Open 2014: Maria Sharapova wins the Women's Singles
Maria Sharapova won her 2nd career French Open Women’s title by defeating Simona Halep of Romania. Maria Sharapova won her 5th Grand Slam title by defeating the Romanian 4th seed in a thrilling encounter by 6-4 6-7 6-4.
Simona Halep, playing in her maiden Grand Slam final, had not dropped a set en route to the final and started brilliantly breaking Sharapova in the first game itself. But Sharapova found her composure and was able to win the first set 6-4.
But Halep was not to be deterred and won the 2nd set via tie-breaker to take the match to a decider 3rd set. But Sharapova used all her experience in the final set and clinched her 2nd title at the Roland Garros by winning the set 6-4.
Tomorrow’s Men’s Singles final will be contested between Rafael Nadal, who would be gunning for his 9th French Open title, and Novak Djokovic, who can complete his career slam by winning the French Open, in what promises to be a mouth watering clash between the two best players at the moment.
