Sami Khedira's Next Move

Sami Khedira's Next Move

In what was a cathartic moment for the finest footballing nation over the past 12 years or so, Sami Khedira stared down from the highest podium in sports and basked in his immortality.

He is one of the conquerors of the 20th World Cup alongside his fellow young Germans, and whatever he does next, it is for this that he will be remembered. This is why he started playing football in the first place; this is football.

Yet, once the incredible euphoria and ecstatic dreamland subside (only a little, because these things never really leave your heart), Sami Khedira will have to make a choice.

For, as a World Cup & Decima winner, he is truly in the pantheon of footballing greats - he is one of a very select few to hold that honour.

His injuries at Madrid have slowed down a promising career, and though he shall remember it fondly, if there was ever a time for a new adventure, it is now. Although Arsenal’s treatment table is notorious for feeling the full force of the Premier League’s famed physicality, the young German will be perfect for them.

He is dynamic and strong, and his passing may not be world-class but he can hold his own amongst the very best - he’s shown that in an incredible span of 3 months during which he conquered Europe and the world.

Also, whilst Ancelotti has taught Madrid to play in his absence, and purchased his fantastic compatriot Toni Kroos (which could force a re-shuffle of tactics that’d lead to him losing his place), Arsenal is primed and ready for someone like him. His steel will anchor down a slick but slight group, and he is the perfect foil for Jack Wilshere.

Having signed Alexis Sanchez, the Gunners are looking to take the title back to the home of the Invincibles, and prove the world that they’re not just pretty and nimble. They’re ready to make another big push for European glory akin to 2006, and for that, there is no man better than the German history-maker.

Arsene Wenger will go all out to sign him and rightly so - he could be the signing to ignite their generation. Also, with Mesut Ozil and Per Mertesacker already in the squad, the World Cup winning contingent wearing their stylish new Puma kit will flood the team with the kind of optimism and the vigour of champions that hasn’t been seen in Arsene Wenger’s teams for almost 9 years.

The FA Cup victory was just the beginning. Men like Sanchez and Khedira will ensure it isn’t the end as well.
