Premier League Review: Manchester United stunned at home as Arsenal leave it late to overcome Crystal Palace

Louis van Gaal’s first competitive match as Manchester United manager got off to a disaster as Manchester United lost to Swansea at home in the 2014-15 Premier League season’s curtain-raiser. United, playing with a 3-man defense, dominated possession but could not create many meaningful chances. On the other hand, Swansea were very organized in defense and attacked United on the counter. Ki Sung-Yeung stunned the Old Trafford with a low drive in the 28th minute. Although Wayne Rooney restored parity with a wonderfully taken bicycle kick goal early in the 2nd half, it was Swansea who won it in the 78th minute as Gylfi Sigurdsson scored from a close range.

Meanwhile Arsenal left it late to win against Crystal Palace courtesy an injury time goal from Aaron Ramsey. Crystal Palace took the lead through Brede Hangeland in the 35th minute. But Arsenal hit back with a Laurent Koscienly header at the end of the first-half. In the second half Arsenal struggled to create many chances but had the last laugh as Ramsey turned the ball into the net from an Oliver Giroud knockdown.

In the other matches, Everton were held to an entertaining 2-2 draw by Premier League newcomers Leicester City while another Championship graduate QPR started off their campaign on a losing note following a 1-0 reverse against Hull City. Tottenham Hotspur recorded a dramatic victory against West Ham as debutant Eric Dier struck in injury time in an incident filled match which saw two red cards and a missed penalty. Aston Villa started off their campaign on a winning note by overcoming Stoke City away but West Bromwich could only muster a 2-2 draw against Sunderland.
