Premier League Review: Tottenham, Chelsea continue their winning starts as Arsenal and Man United both stutter to draws
Louis Van Gaal’s Manchester United reign continues to struggle as the Red Devils were held to an away draw against the lowly Sunderland. Thus after the completion of the first two rounds of the Premier League, Man United have only one point in their kitty. Juan Mata gave United the lead in the 17th minute as he bundled home a fine cross from Antonio Valencia but Sunderland looked the livelier of the two teams and got their goal in the 30th minute as new signing Jack Rodwell powerfully headed home his first goal for the Black Cats.
Arsenal recorded a 2-2 draw at Everton coming back from 2-0 down. Arsenal looked certain to lose but late goals from Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud made sure Arsenal do not return home empty handed.
Tottenham produced an attacking masterclass in front of their fans as Mauricio Pochettino’s side dismantled a hapless QPR side 4-0 to record their 2nd win of the new campaign. Nacer Chadli scored two goals, while defender Eric Dier continued his dream run in front of the goal scoring his 2nd goal in his 2nd match. Emmanuel Adebayor also entered into the scoresheet while Eric Lamela got two assists.
Chelsea also recorded their 2nd consecutive win with a hard fought win over a spirited Leicester City side. New signing Diego Costa continued his goal-scoring form while Thibaut Courtois produced a masterclass in the goal.
In this week’s other games, Aston Villa and Newcastle United played out a dour 0-0 draw while Swansea recorded their 2nd consecutive win with a 1-0 victory over Burnley. Southampton played a goalless draw versus West Brom while Hull City were held to a 1-1 draw at home against Stoke City.
Manchester City take on Liverpool on Monday night in the battle between the defending champions and the runners-up of the last season.
